I live near Buffalo, NY. I had about 6 inches of snow pack on my 500' drive, and it was getting soft because of temps in the high 30's. That's bad because I almost didn't make it up the hill to the house last night. I switched from the blower to the blade because I knew there would be stones in the stuff. I left the blade pretty high on the first pass to avoid lifting the base, and to keep from crabbing or losing traction. I had to go more than 4 mph or the slop would stick to the blade instead of curl and slide over. I finished up in reverse.
