Just picked up this New Idea #400 bar rake. It's been run into the ground, but with a little work I should be able to make it do all I need to do with it.
My first problem to tackle is where the rake "wheel" (not sure the correct term) attaches to the output shaft coming out of the gearbox. As you can see from the pics, it slid out at one point. Instead of fixing it, the previous owner put a bolt through the rake wheel and the shaft (it is rotated so you can't see it in the pic) and kept running it like that. Not exactly what I would have done, but it's what I've got to work with.
The bearing seemed fine, so I greased it and am trying to get it back together. I can't seem to get it to slide together though. I lifted up on the rake wheel with the cherry picker and can align it horizontally, but it needs to move sideways a little. It seems to me like a couple good smacks with a sledge should slide it together, but it won't move. Any suggestions? Has anyone worked on these and could offer some advice?
Does anyone by chance have a parts diagram or something so I can see what it's supposed to be like?
Thanks!
