What is a PTL cylinder? That shaft driving the hydraulic pump 15 or so inches away from the crankshaft pulley must be removable somehow. I'm not at all familiar with that configuration. Do you have a manual to look at? Most likely a manual can be accessed on-line that would describe a removal procedure. While we are at it, what are those two sets of adjacent sprockets with heavy bicycle chains wrapped around them ??

Them sprockets with chain wrapped around them are good and proper couplers. You just need to find the master link and remove it and unwrap the chain off of the sprockets.

Yep, take the master link out on the chain coupler. Then you can get the belt on.

Just for education, what are "chain couplers?" How do they work? Why were they invented?

Still have not heard what a "PTL cylinder " is either.

Oliver used the chain couplers to mate the engine and transmission in their ag tractors years ago and it's a good design. Pull the master link clips. remove the master links and off they come. Real simple.

Well I understand it is wonderful. What for? Why use one? What was its' purpose compared to a plain old shaft?

They are shaft coupler design that allows for small misalignment and servicing equipment. Same purpose as a lovejoy or flex plate type coupler. Saves wear on bearings, seals and reduces vibration on shaft driven equipment. McMaster has them for gearboxes.

My Kubota B20 had flex plates from engine to pump. Lot harder to replace fan belt. Some people went to link type fan belt.

I meant to type PTO cylinder or shaft. We have the original operating manual which does not even delineate who to replace the fan belt. We will look online for a more extensive repair manual. Thank you for your response.

Thanks. We are novice mechanics here. Could you please explain how to find the master link and how to re-install it after installing the new belt. Appreciate your help.
