Highway weigh stations

As many here have suggested, "blow on by, I do".. Please do,, I invite you to Union Ct scale on I 84 westbound and "blow on by". They have roving troopers, each time the scale is open, jsut to catch those that blow on by... Believe it or not,,, the most to try are rentals, especially UHaul and the likes, and many pick up trucks..... To say, blow on by, is wrong. I agree many areas don't care to weigh or mess with pick ups,,, Not good to tell the guys here, blow on by,,, it might cost them more than they have or bargain for.

Maybe the solution is to only operate older equipment... just a thought?

There is a lot of truth in that statement!!!! Pre-seatbelt, Pre-GVW, !!!!

I have always wanted to take an old truck cab and set it down on a modern drivetrain. Best of both worlds.

I originally forgot to say my plates were commercial plates. There's no choice besides commercial in MA if it is F-350 sized or above and dual rear wheels. But, I do not have a special driver's license. I picked my "commercial venture" as Beau Geste since that is my wife's kennel name. They required something for the registration. Oh, and I had to get a special Fast Lane / EZ-Pass account with a commercial (colored blue) transponder for tolls.

The average fine for driving by open weigh stations =$ 400.00 and if the officer suspects you a problem they will escort you back to the scale for a weight check and a full dot inspection

Surly your state DOT department has a web page defining all these rules.

I pull in as it's cheaper and quicker to go in than face the guy with the gumballs. 75% of the time I get the bypass lane so can keep on going. The other 25% requires a full stop on the scales. Even when the semis in front of, and behind are getting the bypass. All comm vehicles no matter how small must in FL. http://www.coopsareopen.com/florida-weigh-stations.html
Insurance companies are catching up on the weights and types of pickup also. Allstate will not write you a non-comm policy in Florida if your 3500 has a flatbed or utility box bed. A 4500/450 doesn't matter what bed.
Fla also tags vehicles over 5000lb empty in Dec. Commercial feet vehicles in June. Friend just bought a 2009 Ford F150 that got bumped into the Dec class by 26 pounds. Wait till he sees his first full year tag fee.

And Fla AG Ins stations have rules about all vehicles with trailers needing to enter. Rental trucks/trailers also get inspected in a different line.

Me too. Non-commercial pickups are not "trucks".

I have pulled into closed weigh stations and used the scales to check my weights and to be sure that I'm loaded properly.
Fla title to my 3500 says something different. Body is TK, Use is Private. It doesn't say PU even though it is one. Registration renewal spells it out as Truck.:(

10 yrs ago while running over the road Missouri required all commercial and RV`S to cross scales, for sure the scales at St. Clair WB on I44. Maybe different now though. Those biggies can get real heavy with the slides, granite floors, etc.

For Wisconsin.

Wisconsin has signs saying that all trucks over 4 tons must weigh at truck weigh stations.
