Homemade Log Grapple

You just need enough of a guide / support for the grapple claw so that with both claws at their limits they pass. I would suggest that you don't need/want tight tolerance. e.g. imagine a three fingered claw. It will grab material just fine.

Did that help? Most commercial grapples don't line up exactly.

All the best, Peter

I did notice that, but the problem comes when you bring the tips together the narrow one must come up first soas not to hit the tip of the other. This means that you either make it considerably shorter, or it needs to come up faster than the other. Tomorrow looks to be a wonderful day to work on that puzzle. Thanks for the reply.

Made this grapple a few weeks ago. Did the drawing in inkscape then used sheet cam to make the machine code for the cutting. Made it out of 3/8 AR steel scrap. Wanting to make a bigger version with longer arms to grab 48 inch and bigger logs. 20180707_123219.jpeg20180707_165553.jpeg20180702_094925.jpeg
