How tight should a check chain be?

You can use both.. many do.. some don't due to cost or hassle..

Both is better, so you don't bend one in compression with a big side load.

My machine only came with one and only one mounting pin (tractor side). It will flex under compression - it saves a lot of impact on the rest of the machine.

You would not be able to make two fixed length stabilizers work because the 3pt pins width is not the same on all implements; to be able to use two you would have to have adjustable stabilizers (like the newer machines).

I have worked the Ford pretty hard and the single stabilizer has not bent (flex yes but not permanent bend).

There are 3pt implement specs.. manufacturers =should= stick to those specs.. that way things like fixed stabilizer bars will work. some don't.. many do.

I use fixed stabilizers on all my 'small' fords.. mowers, box blades.. etc.

Before I got my Ford, my old 1977 International had 2 stabilizer bars which always worked great with my rotary cutter, flail mower, box blade, and post hole digger. I didn't have check chains on it.
