I bought a new gearshift boot because the one I had was rotten. Can't figure out how to get it on. I got it over the ball on the top of the shifter but can't get it over the base of the shifter. Any tips?
If you are talking about getting it over the base of the shifter lever, I would try a drop of liquid soap (works wonders with rubber) and, if that didn't work, a bit of heat from a hair drier.
I have had great success dropping boots in boiling hot water, wait a few minutes, and apply immediately to the shifter. Rubber turns soft a malleable making it easy to install.
