Hydraulic auger question

   / Hydraulic auger question #11
I would probably guess that some of the larger hyd augers use a large hyd motor into a planetary gear housing and develop a lot of torque.

What all this means is that if you can round up all the parts at a reasonable price and have medium mechanical skills, you can do it.

Adapters can be purchased, built, etc.

Looking at the picture of the Power-Trac with home built auger, he used a large wheel motor with wheel hub and then bolted on a matching plate with matching holes and then welded a shaft adapter to fit an auger.

The adapter could be 2 in round stock, hex shape or square depending on the auger you have available.

This motor would be a good starting point. Reasonable price.

22.63 cu in DYNAMIC BMER-1-375-WS-T4 WHEEL MOTOR

Then add an adapter, maybe a wheel hub like this at 1 1/4 taper.

4 BOLT WHEEL HUB 1-1/4" TAPERED

Then bolt on a plate with the adapter you need.

Again the torque is based on the cu in and psi.

GPM's determine the speed.

If you had a 2500 psi pump putting out 15 GPM, that motor would turn at 60 rpm, and develop about 1904 ft lbs.

This is what you have to work with.

JD 5083

Hydraulics:
Type: open center
Pressure: 2828 psi [195.0 bar]
Rear valves: 1 to 3
Mid valves: 2 (optional)
Pump flow: 15.9 gpm [60.2 lpm]
Total flow: 22.5 gpm [85.2 lpm]
Steering flow: 6.6 gpm [25.0 lpm]
Steering press.: 1900 psi [131.0 ba

Their specs:
Model 119-1035
57.4 cu in displ
PSI 2750 cont
PSI 3500 int
PSI 3750 peak
Torque 23,910 in lbs cont
Torque 30,460 in lbs int
179 RPM at 45 GPM
279 RPM at 70 GPM
Rotation reversible
Mount SAE C 4 bolt
Shaft 2-1/8" dia 16 tooth spline
Ports SAE 16
Case drain SAE 6
Size 16-1/4" x 6" x 6"
Shpg 110 lbs.

at 2750 psi they say this motor puts out 23910 in lbs or 1992.5 ft-lbs. The formula for the motor/pump displacement (cu in per rotation) is:
CIPR = Tin/Psi * 6.28

so the calculated motor displacement is 54.60 cu in, they are listing 57.4 cu in, so the efficiency of that motor is 95%, not bad. But the price, WTF?

It is better to just buy
Model EP15R | Danuser

with 2811 ft-lbs (33732 in-lbs) at 3000 psi for a calculated displacement 70.61 cu in or even

Model EP20 | Danuser

and 92 cu in displacement. with 15.9 GPM (assuming I can get that) I should be able to spin this at 40 RPM.

The do it yourself route might not be the cheapest way to go here. Unless you can find US made source of motors with >90 cu in displacement for under $2500

Danuser is getting their torque through a 3.89 : 1 gearbox.

It all comes down to what price do you want to pay for digging a hole.

How much is the Danuser EP15R?

EP10 was $1900 Canadian last time I checked. EP15 I think will be in the $2400 range.

EA lists it at 2K US (with ss mount)

EP15 is $1973 here in Canada. Just the drive. Euro QuickAttach is $488. Cast bit another $712, rock bit $1845

I think I got my auger...
