I'm thinking about trying to make a boom/ditch/pond mower from a old 42" mower deck.

My tractor IH 424 only has about 8 GPM of Hydraulic flow would this motor be able to power a 42" mower deck?
Surplus Center - 0.58 cu in MGG20025-BA1B3 HYD MOTOR SIDE PORTS

SPECIFICATIONS
0.58 in.³ disp.
2000 PSI cont
2500 PSI int
3500 RPM max as pump
5000 RPM max as motor
2.51 GPM @ 1000 RPM
Reversible rotation
92 in-lb./ 1000 PSI
SAE AA 2 bolt mount w/2" pilot
Shaft 9/16" x 1-3/8" w/keyway
Ports SAE 10
Side ports
Size 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 3 3/8"
Shpg 5 lbs

If it will not does anyone have a recommendation?

Should I look for a smaller deck?

Ok anyone know of a way to determine what I'd need to make this work?

Since you have about 8 GPM.

How about a 2 cu in hyd motor, and that would produce a rpm of 924.

The torque or that motor using 3000 psi would be about 955 in lbs, or 79.58 ft lbs.

You now need to compute the blade tip velocity to determine if you have the desired speed.

Are you thinking one, two or three blades for the deck?

If I use an old mower 42"deck it would be two, but if that was to much I could make a deck that used two smaller blades for a deck in the 30" to 36" range.

I was just thinking of doing this exact thing. Didn't get too far in my calculations though.

I have looked at same thing. Check out my post. Re: Quick Attach Front End Hydraulic Sickle Mower

With 8 GPM at 2000 PSI you can develop around 10 HP. Is this enough to drive that size mower deck?

To figure motor size you need to arrive and desired operating RPM and then start figuring backwards from there as to the torque you will develop.

This 20 in boom mower uses 8 GPM.

The larger boom mower probably about a 32 in, uses about 15 GPM.

I used tractor 3000 psi to compute the torque for 8 GPM, = 955 in lbs, or 79.58 ft lbs.

You could also use a 6 HP two stroke engine for pond cutting.
