Where to start? I have been lurking in the shadows, reading all threads that I have time for. Many of the threads have had to do with DIY buiids of firewood processor's and splitters. I started gathering materials back in 2015. I had a splitter. Found a trailer and began collecting metal "stuff" I could hopefully cutup to repurpose the metal. I'm not much of a welder but can usually find a way to stick it together. I got it to this point with much help from a friend or two.

A concern I am dealing with building mine. The pump I'm using is the Dynamic 2 Stage 22GPM, #9-7970 from Surplus Center. I'm running straight from that to the Prince Auto-cycle w/Power Beyond. The plan is for the Power Beyond is to feed a valve that will control the infeed conveyor motor. The motor I have is the 19.36 ci Dynamic from Surplus Center. I thought I could use a NorTrac log splitter directional Valve combined with a Prince Cushion (or double relief) Valve in between the motor and directional valve. I was hoping to be able to run the conveyor forward and backward but I don't believe the log splitter valve will do it so.....

My question is what control valve and cushion valve should I use? I'm so turned around in my thinking after speaking with the Surplus Center Help guy. He said I can't run the motor off that pump because it's a two-stage pump. He said the motor would have issues due to the varying flow passing through the log splitter valve. I figure I might be limited to running one operation at a time but I believe I've seen others on these Forums only using one 2-stage pump to run multiple operations.

I'll throw in a few pictures just for kicks.

If the infeed conveyor motor requires enough pressure to operate it could shift the hi-lo pump into low flow high pressure mode so it would turn much slower. Are you running any other functions besides infeed & splitter cylinder?

Your issue isn’t valve and cushion, but simply lack of flow. That motor requires just under 16 GPM for continuous operation. With normal inefficiencies and losses, you will have very little flow left for anything, especially if the pump shifts into low flow, which it likely will.

Thanks for replying.

I will only be running one or the other. function. The process will start with a chainsaw under it's own power. Then the splitter will be engaged. After the forward stroke of the splitter is complete, I'll advance the log 16" with the motor driven, table conveyor, then start the process over again. There should not be any push to run multiple functions at a time given that set up.

Hydraulic motors have a rated flow, that doesn't mean it won't run with a lower flow. It will simply spin slower and won't give you the rated RPM at the rated flow.

Hi ptsg, thanks for your input. I'm thinking I can get away with it for a while, until I want to add functions.

How do you like your Branson? I've had mine since June 21, 2017. Very few complaints.

I got mine on October of 2017 and it's been an awesome tractor. Nothing to complains on my end either. Only had to readjust the brakes very early on but that was it.

I'm right at 300 hours and should be getting all the stuff for the service soon.

I have decided to go with a 1 Spool 25 GPM Prince RD512EA5A4B1 Motor Spool Valve, with the possibility of future PB and no cushion valve. I let you know how I make out if you're interested.
