This is related to a question I posed in the MF forum, but I think it's vague enough I can bring it up here.

When considering a used (repo) tractor sitting at a dealer, and knowing the clutch is mostly gone (they estimate $1500 for the clutch job), what else should I be checking on this tractor? If it was just a case of the previous owner riding the clutch, what else could be damaged?

Specifically, I'm looking at an AGCO ST40 with a loader, mm mower and a shuttle-shift tranny.

Thanks!

look at overall usage. I'm not sure i would think about it being a ridden clutch.. vs used up clutch.. perhaps on a new machine.. yes.

look at the hours, and wear on the pedals.. etc.

if it currently runs and drives, you are in luck and can check it out... it's the ones with no clutch that are a mystery when you go to look at them..
