Bit of a newbie here. I recently purchased a 95 445. I've done all the usual service including the transaxle. While reading thru the manual for the 54 inch deck it speaks of checking the gearbox oil of the deck, but also checking the PTO oil level on the tractor. That's where I'm confused. I thought the only fluid that needed changing was the transaxle fluid. Is there a seperate gearbox for the PTO that takes the heavier gear oil? Or is it all just the transaxle oil? I'm confused. Thanks. George

There is a gear box on the mower deck that needs the level checked. It is where the pto shafts connects to the deck. Part of mower deck not part of the tractor. Mine on my 72" deck takes 80w90 gear lube.

Most gear boxes are filled to level with the bottom of threads in the highest plug. Fill it until it runs out, put plug in when does not run out any more.
