My JD 710, (canadian) was running fine a week ago. Now it won't turn over, and a push start won't work, the rear wheels won't turn the engine over. I need help. This is a 50 hp diesel tractor made in germany and sold in Europe and Canada.

What is the voltage of the battery? Does it make any sounds at all?

Check the safetys: in neutral, pto disengaged, seat switch closed. battery cables, lights off, etc. There are probably a few fuses to check. Throw a jumper across the starter primary to the battery to see if it will crank.

you have to get the battery charged up to full charge first thing. if you tried to start by pushing it good luck to you if you have not broken anything.if the battery is strong and all the connections are good clean and tight, all the levers in their proper positions.clutch in and start.if that dont work try a boost with jumper cables to the battery.if that fails check the starter and the starter solenoid.if it is turning over at a fast rate and dont start you probably have air in the lines .bleed the air out and try again.you canadians are smart get it started.lets go.

G'day i don't know your machine but when you say that the rear wheels won't turn the engine over is it just the type of trans in it or is the engine siezed? with the key off / engine stop pulled out can you get on to the front of the engine to wind it over by hand? Let us know how you get on

At this point I think the bendix is stuck on the flywheel, or the engine is otherwise froze up for some reason. We're going to pull the starter out this week and take a look. I think that once the starter is out we'll try and move the flywheel a bit.

I had the starter rebuilt, and after a small struggle with the wiring all is well. We are up and running!
