Our JD 990 tractor is having some start issues, that have been traced back to the fuel solenoid. We're wondering if anybody has had the same problem and what the solution was. Turning the key draws the solenoid back and lets fuel go to the pump, turning it to start releases the pin and shuts the fuel off. The tractor starts and runs fine with the solenoid removed. With it out was when we noticed that it would drop out in start mode. New here to your forum, and before we started throwing parts at it, we thought somebody has likely seen this before. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like the ignition switch is the problem.

the JD fuel solenoid has to voltage input wires. One is to help open it initially and will shut off and the other is continuous to hold it open. Its possible only one voltage of the solenoid is working. The other issue could be the thermistor. It's behind the fuse box wrapped in electrical tape that works to cut the voltage to the one lead.

There's a ton of vids and post on the fuel solenoid and thermistor. Its a fairly common problem in the early 2000 JD models.
