John Deere 850 tractor

i knew the 850 and 950 were full yanmars but i guess i missed the 1050 as one, i keep seeing like the old 1020s in my head even though i read 1050

Well, the Yanmars run all the way up into the JD 4000 series. :)

Many of the JD units were actual Yanmars in JD green. If was in the lat 90s and early 00s that just the engines came over. The Yen vs. the USD was the key point there.

the 4400 is a tractor made in the US...just has a Yanmar engine.

Many of the smaller tractors have been made and are still made in Augusta Ga just down the road from me.

And yes i know the 850,855,790,950 etc were JDs.

The 1020 is a 60's era john deer ag tractor meant to pull ground engaging equiptment...would take 2 yanmars to equal in weight the 1020

Thanks for the information.

Supposedly most, if not all of the Yanmar-built JD's had a lot of parts built strictly to JD standards and are not interchangable with Yanmars.

I have not seen this yet to be true. If you had to rebuild an engine, i would say the engine head has a difference to a degree, but the pistons, crank, rings, sleeves, and such are all the same. If you can not find a JD head, a Yanmar may fit well enough. Then you will need to the other parts on the outside of the head to match or modify.
Heads are becoming a rare things for the JD engines. I know, been there done that bit already.
