Just purchased a used Kubota G1800, diesel, with this being
my first diesel engine what engine speed is best for mowing?
With the Wheel Horse gas engine, I always mowed with full
throttle. I do not want to damage the engine or mower deck
gearbox

G, Ken, I've never used a G1800, but I doubt that it's any different from the other diesel engines in that it has a governor so you can't over rev it, and you mow at full throttle, or just a tiny bit under full throttle. The B7100 I used to have didn't have a tachometer, and both the dealer and a factory service rep told me there was no problem with running it full throttle, although "normal" PTO speed was just a tiny bit under full throttle. I believe I also read somewhere on this forum where someone else said his dealer told him the same thing, i.e., go to full throttle, then pull the lever back just a little bit.

You should run near full throttle when under a load or mowing. This will help the hydro transmission and to keep the engine cool. I have a G1900.

I paid $4,000 for my G1800, 48 inch deck, 550 hours.
The mower is in excellent shape.

You got a good deal. It's a good tractor, and that's low hours given her life expectancy.
