Just changed my engine oil on my (07) L3400 DT yesterday, put in 5qts. and that bring it to the dot dip stick when it's curled down a little, my manual says 6qts. the last time I put 6 in, the motor smoked like a locomotive steam engine, I drained a qt. back out, and from now on I just put in 5qts. when I change the oil. Now I have 600hrs. and the first change was at 50hrs. than 100hrs. than every 100 after that.
The manual also says change the trans. oil every 400hrs. and change just the filter every 200hrs., and now it's been 200hrs. since I last change the transmission oil, and filter, should I change the trans. oil and filer, or just the filter this time? what to do what to do, 9-1/2 gals. X $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$, just the filter alone is $45.00.
