My Kubota L3010 has lost the 4 wheel drive. It has the hydrostatic transmition and it sounds like the shifter is doing something when I listen at the case but no 4WD. Any ideas where I should start troubleshoot or looking?

Welcome Jim Taralli.

My first thought is that if your getting the sense that it's engaging at the case that your problem may be up front. Looks like there are a few couplings on the propeller shaft (from the case to the front axle).. did you hear anything sudden when it stopped working?

I'm trying to think simple and not traumatic, if the locking pin broke down for some reason, maybe the coupling disengaged. Not sure if that ever happens though.

Good luck.

Does the front drive shaft spin? Are you sure the linkage is moving correctly?

From the WSM the probable causes of front wheels not driven are"
1) Propeller shaft broken
2) Front wheel drive gears in transmission broken
3) Front differential gear broken
4) Shift fork broken
5) coupling displaced

Normally "broken" has a side kick of "expensive bad sounds" along with it. You didn't mention that so I would look more to #1,4,5 -->> AFTER making sure the linkage is actually working. It moves a gear on a splined shaft to mesh with transmission.

The propeller shaft can be replaced and the coupler inspected with 2 steps.

Slide the shaft cover after removing the screws (2 screws).
Tap out the spring on the coupler, then slide the coupler to the front.
