John Deere 420 garden tractor
Spring planting/lawn season is upon us. Being on the road is getting more dangerious all the time. Most all the big JD's at my dealership I work at have atleast 1 revolving light up high, some have more than 1. Plus all the normal flasher lights. GT' are less lit up if at all. I push snow in the winter, attend plow days with night plowing and some have a bit of a drive down roads to get to fields. Lets see your set ups of what you use for warning lights on your tractor, be it full size or garden tractor. I have seen a few pics of various strobe/beacon mounts, twin fender mounted amber hazard flashers like a farm tractor(on a garden tractor) would sport ect. Safety is paramount, espicaly in the darker winter months when plowing/blowing snow. I am setting my John Deere 318 up with a 5x7 Hobbs flood lamp on the right fender facing rearwards for night time plow days and as a reverse. Then on the right fender I will have one of the teardrop shaped amber rotating light as used on JD's big farm tractors. It will have a mount bolted to the fender, the beacon can be removed when not needed and the mount capped. The electrical connection is made thru the mount. Its made by Hella, a very well known brand. I have ran xenon strobes before, but the flash back off falling snow, signs ect, got annoying. The revolving light is a bit easier on my eyes. I have done the normal alum duct tape treatment to my stock headlights and the 318 has both stock tail lights as well. I also made a scale size SMV triangle, a full size one looks out of place on a GT, although I do have one on the back of my big lawn cart I pull sometimes. I used the same material as the full size SMV to make my mini one. My tractor is down down at the moment, so no pics yet. Lets see your set ups. Mike

I like the OLD SKOOL revolving lights. The LED stuff isn't nearly as good at a distance and too directional. Good thing for the cage on the second pic. That light is held on with big magnets in case I hit something.

I added two more flashers, like the fender mounted ones, up high under the canopy. I took the trailer plug-in apart and tapped in to the turn signal wires inside of it.

At the same time I added six led flood lights.

I just added a 360 degree amber rotating hazard light (12VDC) to the top of my ROPS. I was advised against an LED one by my dealership due to the extra cost and efficiency of the 'old school' lamp.

The assembly sits on the right side (we drive on the left), is held by a magnet and I added a few tie-wraps due to bouncing around fields. It came with a long curly cord & 'cigarette' plug, so I ran a two-core electrical wire from the battery to underneath & behind my seat, wiring in a 'cigarette lighter' jack. I just plug it in when I require it. Easy peasy.

Of course I also put the 4-way flashers/headlights on and, with the ballast box on, I've got two reflective SMV triangles. Other than also wearing my seatbelt, I can't think of anything else I can do.

Well, you could hire an escort service (or your wife maybe?) to follow behind you in the truck with the hazard lights flashing, and maybe put a warning light on top of it too.

NOTE: Don't get that confused with female escort services!!!

IMHO, vehicles escorting tractors is a bad idea. Now cars have to pass two vehicles and the space between them, putting them in the other lane for 3-4 times longer.

I use the standard flashers that came on the tractor.
To be seen better I added the following:
Reflective tape on the sides and rear.
F&R LED light bars.
F&R LED amber strobes.
Roof mount Programmable Amber strobe

Nice setup! I particularly like the DOT reflective tape, which is a real attention grabber at night. I have some on our golf cart, and your pictures remind me that I should put some on the tractor, particularly on the loader booms.

It amazes me how well some will have their tractor light (normally great factory lighting) and then hidden by big nothing on implement behind them.
