Greetings!

I'm brand new to the site and was hoping that some of you could steer me in the right direction. I currently take care of 64 acres of land that consists of hardwood forest, fallow fields (with about 10 billion chinese tallow triees, aka. chicken trees), and some of which can get really boggy during the late winter.

I must note that I am almost finished refurbishing a MF 1130 diesel with an 8' JD blade on the front end. I plan on using this big boy to do some tallow tree removal (which of course, will be followed with an application of 2,4-D). With that being said, as soon as the scrub situation is manageable, I'd like to use an M series tractor for upkeep, a bit of organic farming, and some haying applications.

Not all 64 acres will be shredded using the smaller tractor, but I know I need an Ag tractor and not a compact.

I've all but made up my mind on the 4x4 M-series Kubota. I'll have to add a FEL later on due to cost constraints. Would anybody be able to give me a ballpark of what the M4900 or M5700 would cost set up like I've explained?

One more thing: I'm 6'4" and weigh in at about 340lbs. As you can see, most tractors aren't ergonomically suitable for a fellow with my dimensions. I've tried out an M4900 and a JD 03 series and I seem to be pretty comfortable on both (me on an L4400 looked like Bigfoot on a Tonka truck). Are there any other makes that would fit me a little better? I can rule out MF 400 series...kinda small.

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

The M4900 rops will run, with rebates around 20850.00 plus tax. The M5700 is 21850.00. The extra 1000.00 buys you 7 more hp at the PTO. The 5700 is around 100lbs. heavier, same hyd. capacity, same lift capacity on the 3pt. Both of these are priced with ag-tires. The R4's would cost around 100.00 more. The only major difference would be in the transmissions, the M5700 has a couple of more options. Both good tractors, either would do what you're looking to do.

Big Cajun,
Welcome to TBN, there are some good folks here who can give great advice and suggestions.

I am look to buy the same M series as you. I received a price in September for M4900 at $19500 at one dealer and $20,000.00 at another. The M5700 was about $1200 more, and it is basically the same tractor as the M4900. The M6800 was about $2500 more than the M4900 and is alot more tractor.

The M series is being replaced with the M5040, M6040, M7040, M8540, and M9540. They should be at dealers by Spring of '06. I plan on purchaseing one of these unless I get a really good incentive on the current M series. I check with my dealer every couple of weeks to see if Kubota is offering any incentive on the M4900 or M6800. Nothing yet in my area.

I just read a short article in Progressive Farmer on the new M Series and it said pricing should start around $19500. My dealer also told me the new M series should be priced the same or lower than the old M's.

Thanks for the quick replys kjb and hunter. I read through my Progressive Farmer this morning and noted that the 40 series was coming out Spring of 2006. I was actually hoping that they would be priced about the same as the current M Series units.

Maybe we can get good deals on the new "old stock" M-series tractors...now that would really make my day.

Thanks again.

Gentlemen,

I know that Big Cajun was discussing 4WD only. Am I correct in assuming that all the prices you discussed were for 4WD as well? I am looking hard at the same series.

Seven,
All my pricing was MFWD.

One price I also got was M4900 (4x4), FEL and one set rear remotes $24,000.00 plus tax. Which is a pretty good deal around here.

I really want to look at the new M series since they should be priced about the same. So I am kinda hoping they don't offer incentive on the old M's, cause I might crack under the pressure /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif.

We looked at the M4900 and M5700. We ended up with a M6800. As has been mentioned, the M5700 is essentially the same tractor as the M4900. It has slighter larger wheels and tires which gives it slightly more weight and height. The motor is the same. The M5700 just spins a little higher and gets a bit more fuel for the extra horsepower.

After looking at the M5700, we decided to bite the bullet and go with the M6800. If you think you might need a M5700, then you really need a M6800. Otherwise the M4900 will be a better deal.

The M6800 has front and rear mechanical differential lock, a nice standard feature not found on the M4900 or M5700. Helps a lot in certain situations.

Just the info I was looking for! I appreciate all the contributions that you guys have posted on this thread. I was thinking that the 5700 would be a bad decision since it has the same engine as the 4900. I'd love the 6800, but I'm pretty certain that I can't afford the difference in price from the 4900.

Bonus: I have my MF 1130 at 90%...I took it for a test run yesterday afternoon and demolished some tallow trees...I feel like a big chunky kid with a new toy!

Thanks much guys.

Hey Big_Cajun where exactly are you located? I see you bio shows South Central Louisiana. Just curious as to how close we are, I live between Breaux Bridge and St. Martinville. Also, what dealer are you dealing with (if any)?
