Hello. I am a new user currently researching my first tractor purchase. I have found this site very informative, containing a wealth of knowledge. I have narrowed it down to a Kubota M6800 versus A JD 5205 (both with FEL). Primary use would be cutting, tilling, light loader work, and eventually some hay production on 100 plus acres. Pros and cons from owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...AGV

I'm not sure this is a direct comparison between brands. The Kubota is rated at 62 HP at the PTO while the John Deere is at 50 HP at the PTO. Twelve HP at the PTO is pretty significant. That gives the Kubota a 19% HP advantage over the JD 5205. Wouldn't the JD 5325 be a more direct comparison?

Based on the specs, between the M6800 and the 5205, I would go with the M6800. But, saying that, I don't believe it is a fair comparison. The M6800 has more power, has better lift capacities, more reverse gears, and a locking front diff on MFWD models (based on a quick perusal of the websites).

You can probably get better input from others that are more familiar with the dealer line-up of both makes as to which tractors models are more comparable.

Yeah, M5700 would be more in line with the 5205.

Tjkadar, Thanks fot the reply.
I would agree that the JD 5325 is more comparable to the M6800. Based on local dealer pricing, the 5205 and M6800 are comparable in price. The JD 5325 with FEL is starting to move out of my price range, although I have looked at this model as well. I really like the JD, but would likely be getting more bang for the buck with the M6800... also the M6800 has a fully synchronized main transmission...descions...AGV

You are definitely getting way more bang for the buck going with the M6800 if they are competitively priced.

Did I just talk to you on the phone about an hour ago? Funny thing is I just had a customer asking exactly the same thing for the same situation.

You should know, the M6800 is on its way out and is being replaced by a new M7040. I breezed though the specs and there is virtualy no difference. Pricing is right about the same. There is a major overhaul to the appearance and look and feel. The new tractors look really sharp and the control layout is really nice - much like a big AG tractor with everthing placed on a panel off to the right side. Right now we have 3 on order, but none have a ship date yet. I have heard that other dealers are getting them so it should not be too much longer.

If the prices are the same, go for the M6800. You are getting more tractor for your money.

We have a 2005 M6800 MFWD, hydraulic shuttle shift, & FEL on the farm. It is a geat tractor and should do everything you would like. If you have any specific questions on the tractor, let me know. If you can get a 2006 7040 for the same price, I would seriously look at waiting and picking up one of those.

I don't know about the new models but that M-6800 is just about the best tractor that Kubota has ever made.

I have had the M9000 for a few years now and have been very happy with it. The M6800 is basically the same machine without the turbo and intercooler. It runs very quietly.

The 5205 is a nice machine but the M6800 is alot more tractor.

My choice would be the M6800.
