Halfway up a mountain in Wales. UK
Tractor
All makes
I've picked up a few magnetic chucks over the last few years, some of which do not work. Does anyone know how to repair them or is it a specialist job? One of them I have repaired as it was only the lever that was worn. Trouble is shipping and repair costs usually make these sort of things worth scrap value. Help appreciated.

Which mountain are you halfway up? All my land flooded this morning (Lougher valley) so I'm envious!
AFAIK if you dismantle a magnetic chuck, you permanently destroy most of the magnetic force & the chuck has to be remagnetised at the factory, so go carefully.

Hi Pycoed, not really a mountain I suppose, but it's a darn BIG hill. About 20 miles West of Aberystwyth, Teifi Pools further up our dead end road. Have heard they lose their magnetism, cannot see the scientific reason why they should, it takes some doing to demagnetise a strong magnet. Are you sure it's not a fable promoted by the chuck manufacturers to get the repair business?

Fields too wet to go on, but not flooded.

If you are indeed 20 miles WEST of Aber, then you'll be a bit wetter than me:D
I know Teifi pools - nice part of the world. River Llwchwr back into its channel as of 6 hrs later, lots of duck around & season's just started - yippee!

I seem to remember some threads 10 yrs or so back on the old rec.crafts.metalworking usenet group about the magnetism reducing drastically if the bit the lever turns is removed from the chuck, & the advice then was never to remove it, but wash out the gap with paraffin (kerosene to the Yanks!) &/or blow out with an airline only. Never had one myself, but can see they'd be useful.

Now I know why I keep getting lost :( Yup, lovely around here, only place I know where you can drive 30 miles on a Saturday morning and consider it busy if you meet 4 cars.
