Massey Ferguson 2605 4x4
We are having a problem getting our MF 2605 to turn over. Was running fine one day and then went out to start it up and nothing. Horn honks, lights come on. But nothing else will work. Brand new battery is in place. We have tested the ignition and there is juice going to that. We have checked fuses, and safety switches that we could find. The tractor H/L is in neutral as well as the gear shift and clutch is in with fuel on and ........nothing. You see all the lights come on but engine will not turn over. All we could find was a yellow wire going to the solenoid that had not juice. We cant find where the yellow wire is coming from. There is a yellow wire coming from the ignition switch but it is hot. So we are stumped. Any help would be great! Thank you

Welcome to TBN..

If it ran fine one day and not now it sounds like a safety switch isn't being made or has gone bad. Could be a seat switch, PTO off switch, clutch switch, trans neutral switch, etc. While turning the key to start position try moving the PTO lever and H/L lever to see if it tries to crank. Have you checked voltages at the starter. Check the ground cable to chassis connection. Check the hot lead to starter cable. (another member had a bad cable from the battery to the starter that was internally corroded). Battery read 12.9V, other end of cable at starter read 10.6V. Hard to diagnose half a country away. Good luck finding the problem

George2615,

We found out by trial and error we could run a wire from the ignition switch to the starter, and it turned over then. Still have to find the problem but it will at least start now. We will try your recommendation to try to start it and try moving the pto and H/L lever. Our book that came with the tractor does NOT tell us where all the safety switches are. So we are struggling with those. We used a test light and found the wire that comes into the solenoid had no juice. We really appreciate you taking the time to respond. I too hope we can find the problem soon, but till we do at least we have a way to start it for now.
