Hi all,

I recently acquired an MF 180. Runs great but makes a terrible high pitched grinding noise above 1000 RPM. Noise stops when second stage of clutch is pushed in. Also, some times briefly goes away if I move aux Hyd. lever. Other possibly related symptom is aux lever remains at every either detent position (doesn't return to center on its own as I think it should) and engine doesn't load up at all with lever at either position. 3 point hitch functions as it should (draft, position etc. all function). Multi-power functions properly. I am 99% sure tractor has auxiliary pump for auxiliary hydraulics (no combiner valve or anything).

First, does this sound like a hydraulic pump issue? If so, any suggestions? I am open to pulling the top off the tranny rear (I have done some online research) but I don't want to if I am missing something easy and I am not up to splitting the tractor. Tractor has live PTO (not independent).

For background, I am not a farmer but grew up on a 165 and 175 so I am certainly no expert but I do know enough to get around (and get myself in trouble!)

Thank you for taking the time to read my post.
