Have just started looking at the 1455 and was curious if anyone could give some pro's and con"s.

Thanks in advance....

The 1455 is a solid tractor. The chassis has been used on the 1165 tractor in the past with minor changes. The 16x16 PowerShuttle makes a nice utility tractor. The transmission has creeper speeds as standard. Probably the best feature however is the 4 cylinder Iseki engine. It has plenty of power and if you started the engine you should have noticed how smooth it ran. I have used the 1455 both in mowing and in loader backhoe use and it is one solid tractor.

I'm not too sure about these new ponytractors(ala ponycars of the 60s).Be kinda hard to get them heavy enough to use all that horsepower I'd tend to think.

I've had the 1455 Power Shuttle on the lot and now have a 2WD & 4WD 1455V. I love the 1455 power shuttle but looking at it from a consumer prospective, it is a little pricey. However, if you have a need for the power shuttle then it is worth the money. But, if you are looking for a simple, standard shuttle transmission, look at the 1455V. It is priced right and it is a great looking machine. As for the weight issue, the 1455V comes in just under the weight of the 231S. It does have the weight to match the 55 HP hidden underneath the compact exterior. I think that Massey has done a great job with this line in attemting to fill the void left by the 243 tractor. The 1455 is not the same as a PERKINS WORKHORSE, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better, well priced tractor on the market. Hope that helps.

Hey Redstone,

You've lost me on your weight to hp comparisons vs the 231s. Not really sure how the 1455 that weighs less than the 231s can handle 20 or so more horses so easily?

Here's the comparrison. (I actually mis-spoke because the 1455 does weigh more than the 231S.)

The 231S has 45 Engine HP and 42 PTO HP. It weighs 4120 lbs.

The 1455V has 55.3 Engine HP and 45.6 PTO HP. Its weight is 4275 with R-4 tires and 4222 with AG tires. The 1455 weighs 5053 with R-4 tires and 5000 with AG tires.

The 1455 does have 55 engine HP but it only has 3.6 more PTO HP than the 231S. There is not a 20 HP between the two tractors. There is only 10 engine and 3.6 PTO HP difference.

Also, the 231S is a farm tractor where the 1455 is still rated as a compact tractor. Compare the 1455 to the other compact tractors in the same HP range and I think that you'll see that the tractor weight is good on the 1455.

Really the only compasrrison that I was trying to make was in order to show that the 1455 does have similar weight to that of the farm tractor line. It is a compact Massey but it does have the weight it needs to handle the HP. Drive one. I think you'll become thoroughly convinced.

I hope that helps.

OOOppppssss I forgot the % sign. I meant that the 1455 has 20% or so engine hp over the 231s.

JUst bought at MF 1455v 4wd with r4 tires and loader. Sent 3 weeks shopping and got more tractor for the money with the 1455v. JD and Kubota wer out of my price range. Case/NH 45hp tractor with same equipment was was priced same as the MF 1455v with 55hp. Dealer add water and antifreeze to rear tires. Has plenty of power and weight to handle the 6' bucket. Sent 2 weeks so far on tractor and have no complants.

When I first started looking, I looked at Masseys and was very impressed with them. I was NOT impressed with their pricing. My two local dealers wanted $21k for 1250's one shuttle, one hydro. $3k to $4k less for a Kubota had me drop that thought ina hurry. Of course I dropped the Kubota thought too later /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I read somewhere they have lowered their pricing to the point they are more competitive. I hope so, they deserve more recognition.
