I also used lime from the quarry. I dug out the slop put a load in and graded it, It has been dry for 2 years . Best thing I ever did. this wasn't ag lime but the next grade down , it has some small rock mixed it , but you can't tell by looking at it. Much cheaper too.

I agree Jeff. Digging out the slop, organic material, and mud is as important as the specific material brought back in. Too many folks try to fill on top of the manure and muck to find it won't compact or drain.

Mulch , woodchips , straw , sand .

I think wood chips would be a good temporary fix, call all your local tree services, I have gotten some free and $10 a pickup load is common. After things dry up regrade, problem area. Does you barn have gutters and down spouts?

NO! Organic matter will be worked into the ground by the horse hooves. It will become like a sponge and form a perpetual muck hole. Best to slope and use gravel to stabilize. Vary the feed spot - esp after winter freeze thaws. You dont want pock marks to pool water.
