Arrow,

Thank you very much for the info provided. I'm sure this thread will help others. I left a msg for a gentleman in Mahindra USA and will update info when he calls me back.

Recap:

The last two numbers ending in:
xx25 or xx35 - India
xx16 - Japan (all Mitsubishi made), Loader made in USA.
xx10 - Korea

I recently purchased a 2013 4010 after going through a very similar decision process. The 4010 was so very close to the cost of the 3616 - it just made sense to make the slight jump. I have loved every minute spent with it so far. If you would like any info on it, search my earlier posts or let me know.

I too am asking myself why am I not looking at the 4010 given the close MSRP with the 3616. I'll search your earlier posts, thank you.

For some reason, I thought I posted pics earlier - I guess I didn't post as much info as I thought. Just let me know what you'd like to know and I'll dig up the details.

Does the 4010 have a larger frame than the 3616?

In actuality, the 4010 is shorter than the 16 series by an inch or so but it is a much more beefier build. It is an entirely different tractor and just about 600lbs heavier tractor for tractor. It is a stout machine and if I had the extra money, I would have bought it. Its a TYM machine in reality. That being said, my 3016 pulled out this entire crown of a 60' oak from some really dense woods. My other tractor would have just stopped when a branch would get hung up. This one just busted branches off and made it all the way home to the landing. The crown stem is 12" across. It also pulled the entire tree stem (18" @ dbh) in one shot.

Arrow,

I'm jealous of you for two reasons: you have a cool tractor and you get to burn quality fire wood. All I got here in NM are Pine and Juniper.

Thanks for the info on the tractor. Seems that the 4010 is also a touch narrower than the 3616. I'll have the dealer quote me on the 4010 as well.

Ah New Mexico.... That is the only place the wife and I got stopped in a speed trap when we motorcycled across the entire country. Same hwy where speed went from 70 to 55 for absolutely no reason. (except for the trap) To this day I do not know where she came from as there was open desert on both sides of us. Hey, If I helped the economy for NM even more then more power to them. A hydro 4010 up here was $22,500 this past fall. I know the 16 series went up by about 2K from when I got mine. Perhaps you can find a left over. I got my 16 for dirt as it was a 2012 left over. It seems nobody cares for a geared tractor anymore.

I paid $21,652 (cash price) for my 2013 in November. Hopefully you can find a 2013 still, alia176.

Thanks for contributing to our economy, LOL!!!!

The dealer does have a 2011 3316 Shuttle in the lot, claims to be paint faded, for $18950. He also has a 3616 Cab HST and a 4010 HST that I can check out as well. Unfortunately, he has no frame mounted BH on any of these tractors.

Sounds like anything less than 40 hp, one would be well advised to get a shuttle shift vs a HST. I've driven a Kubota HST and a Montana gear shift, so the shuttle shift sounds fine with me. The less hp is eaten up by the transmission, the better.

Considering that my dealer had an early 2013 3616 for $19900, that price for a 2011 seems high to me. 2011 was well before the two price hikes Mahindra had put on their stuff so it was bought with old pricing. Check at "Tractor House" for what a low hour 2011 3316 is going for now. His product has been outside in the sun and weather for over 2 years. I happen to agree with your assessment of hydro on lowered hp tractors. I am perfectly happy with the shuttle. I am not aware at all of pushing in the clutch to engage the shuttle. It becomes like breathing and it is fast.
