Nope.. no new hardware or software on that laptop in a couple years.

Go to Task Manager (right click the bottom menu bar in grey space), and look at what processes are running that you don't want or need. (Especially memory hogs). Chances are she picked up a "feature" while out on the road and its drawing computer h.p. that doesn't need to be worked. Especially if somebody dropped some video game cycles on it.

Be sure to set the XP display features to minimize cpu cycles on specials: mega number of screen colors, rounded fonts, etc. Uncheck all the "neat stuff" someone thought was cool but is actually causing extra memory and paging space traffic. Go to Internet Explorer and delete all the old references to forms, pages, temp img files, fonts, etc. This is just good practice anyways. Eliminate fonts that you don't need, too. Windows stores all these items for future use (that's not in your future).

I'll bet you can free up enough cycles to make it work better that you ever though possible.

Uh.. no video games.. and no new software... this is DEFFINATELY a HARDWARE issue as the video artifacts show up at post during power-on.
