I bought a bush hog yesterday. Now I’ll I need to re-seed after doing this and when is the best time of year to do it? Also, I’m assuming the ground needs to be fairly dry.

Now is a good time to do the land preparation. Harrow every time weed seeds germinate until you are ready to sow new crop seed. It will take 2-3 years to reduce the weed seed in the soil but if you keep cultivating with the Disc Harrow and/or Chain Harrow you will reduce weed seed bank to a tolerable level over time. Do not let the weeds get to the seed stage again.

Your last freeze in Georgia at low elevations should be around April 1st. Seed April 15 to May 15 when rain is predicted to promote seed germination.

I have 6 acres that has been a hayfield. For the past 10 years it has not been cut or anything. I have been working on getting the field under control.

I hope we can acquire the land around us soon which is around 50 acres.

Six acres is good to see how you like hobby farming.

Fifty-six acres is still a hobby farm but with the potential to be a very expensive, time consuming hobby. Ease into more land.
Farming will make you appreciate a regular day job, with regular pay days, not dependent on the weather.

You have enough tractor for more than six acres. Buy quality, heavy implements, one-at-a time, as need dictates, after careful research.
