From an announcement in today's Minneapolis Star Tribune:

With great sadness the Northern Tool + Equipment family announces the loss of our beloved founder, Don Kotula, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 20, at the age of 78.Don was a passionate entrepreneur who founded the company in his garage in 1981,when he built a log splitter to help people save money during the oil crisis. From those humble beginnings his hard work and relentless focus on doing right by his customers and employees turned the company into a nationwide destination for trades professionals and DIYers who are serious about doing things right.

He will be remembered for his humor, spontaneity and zeal for life; and dearly missed by his family, friends and all the people of Northern Tool + Equipment. We are honored to build on his great legacy by carrying forward the values and work ethic knowing him has instilled in all of us.

Funeral Service will be held 12 PM Friday, January 26, 2024 at Shepard of the Lake Lutheran Church,3611 North Berens Road NW, Prior Lake, MN with a visitation starting at 9:30 AM at the church. In remembrance of Don Kotula’s life, the family asks that commemorations or charitable contributions be made to Northern Tool + Equipment Foundation benefiting the Tools for the Trades™ program, a program created to inspire the next generation of skilled trades professionals. May he rest in peace......I've bought a lot of products from Northern
tool and Hydraulics as i recall the original name.
