The air motor on my hyd jack works from start to finish, and has springs to pull the shaft back down.

The one I have is a 20 ton and cost me about $80 several years ago. It is kind of slow.

The working pressure is about 2,000 so not super high, at least that one. Thanks for the info on the air over jacks, they are a low cost option.

Speed isn't super important, since the travel distance is short, and I have no plans for high production volume. I suppose I COULD start with an air over jack, and make it work, just to see if the whole thing will work out likre I imagine, then if it does invest into the elec option.

How thick of an H frame would I have to build to hold up to this thing? I believe the dies I will be using would give way before the thing reached 20 tons, most likely way before.
