OK Dads, spill the beans

At the reception I handed my daughter's new husband a gift wrapped box. While he was opening it, I explained how as a father I had spent years keeping her safe and warm and happy, but now it was his job. In the box was her old baby blanket. I told him "she's your baby now".

Well my daughter takes that trip in May of this year. I plan to tell her are you sure this is the right one and to be happy. I also plan to tell her husband that If I see one unexplained bruise, that it will be between him and me.

Don't know what made me think of this but while I sat in church tonight, the question entered my mind of what I will say to my daughter just before I walk her down the aisle to be married. Granted, she's 4 but I've always wondered what special words Dads leave their daughters with, serious or silly. So Dads, care to let us in on your special moment?

WHAT! They grow up and get married!:eek::eek: Not ready for that yet! :D:D:D

The wife and I have already discussed Boy Visits and how I will walk them to the end of our private road for a chat. :D

We have also discussed the use of the tractor and backhoe. :D We have 45ish acres plus easy access to land that is vacant. I'm not digging That Hole on my land. :D:D:D We are on somewhat of a high spot so the vultures like to hang out to catch thermals over the house. Hint Hint. :D

My wife was puking and very ill the day we got married. Hmmm. Wonder what the means?

Mine is 8 months old. I'm still sleepy eyed from getting up 3x a night to think about this.

I will admit it's crossed my mind already though.

Why, she was nervous with excitement, of course! ;)

Yeah, that was it. :D

What we did not know then but now know, say that fast three times, was that she has Glaucoma. And if she is stressed out, it causes headaches, light sensitivity, puking, nausua, etc. She is also loosing vision at the point. Even after many doctors/specialist visits the Glaucoma was not diagnosed. And was not until years later.

We had a disaster wedding. A freak thunderstorm hit the city flooding roads and taking out power. Guests including MIL 2 B got stuck in traffic. The alarm kept going off at the place of the wedding as power flicked on/off. POlice would then come because of the alarm. The person that was supposed to open the place up was an hour late so food, flowers and other prep was way behind.

And then the bride could walk and looked like a ghost.

But other than that everything was ok. :D

Our wedding went off without a hitch. I had steak and eggs and beer for breakfast, apple schnaaps before the ceremony(still sober), champaign with my wife in the ride to the reception(kinda buzzed), stopped drinking after the dinner and toast(knew my limits). The rest of the crowd consumed 4 kegs, 56 bottles of hard liquor, and 4 gallons of wine. We also used 1100 plastic shot glasses. After the wedding, someone had given us a night at the Marriot and the Presidential suite. :)

So, I would tell my daughter that in this day and age, that type of behavior is unacceptable!!! :D

I had three daughters, and the very last thing I told them was "Smile, this is your day, and your are the prettiest woman here, I love you". And with that we walked down the aisle.

Seventeen years ago I told mine that we could walk out and forget the whole thing if she wanted to. She declined, got married and I now have a great son in law. Would not trade him for any others. Now they have two wonderful little grandsons for my wife and me and my son in law treats her like a queen. He is a hard worker and a fine dad to my grandsons. I am glad she would not walk out that day.
