In the 1920’s, they started experimenting with low pressure pneumatic tires on farm tractors. Goodyear used Case tractors and Firestone used Allis-Chalmers tractors.
In 1934, Nebraska Tractor test 223 , Allis-Chalmers was the first tractor tested with rubber tires and steel wheels. Both the drawbar hp and fuel economy were increased over 25% by using pneumatic tires over steel.
Major breakthrough for farming and tractors… No more steel wheels…Now super pneumatic tires!
{Thanks a lot for bringing us down memory lane with those ad’s}
DFB,those ads were great. I enjoyed reading them. I am very interested in vintage tractors, and the tread designs you find on some of the old tires are real interesting! Thanks, alot!!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
