Thanks to the responders, my take away is I need to add this task to my skill set and do it more frequently than I have. I did have bearing buddies on a previous trailer and had no problem but was warned to be cautious about how much grease I put in to avoid pitfalls others have noted and had this trailer 9 years with no issues.
Thanks again. Bill

All my last 10 or so trailers have had them but thats just for between service use. They still need to be inspected and repacked every 3,000 miles or two years. I have seen too many seal then brake failures from just pumping in grease.

Chris

I under stand what you'er saying about the grease seal. According to Dexter disassembly there's no need to remove the hub and re pack the bearings. This is the trailer that I just convered from surge to elec. brakes. 1 of the seals was bad. I replace all 4. I would say you would need to inspect the seals from time to time... Total cost to convert $280.00. My time ?
