We have a MT 250 D building excessive pressure in the power steering system. It will blow the seal out& is leaking while running at idle. Where would the pressure relief valve be, & what would cause it to malfunction?

Your 250 power steering relief pressure should be 1490PSI and the valve should be factory set at that pressure. The relief valve is located directly above the steering box housing and sandwiched between the housing and the cover that the bottom end of the steering wheel shaft enters. The relief adjustment is located on the side of the relief valve and is a slotted screw with a lock nut on it. Loosen the lock nut and turn the screw in/out to adjust steering pressure. You should put a pressure gauge in the steering pressure ( supply) line and turn wheel to full lock to observe the hydraulic pressure the steering valve is receiving.and adjust the relief screw as needed.Hope this helps

We have removed the valve between the pump, & the 2 outlet lines that split off to the power steering & 3 point hitch to have it tested. It seems as if there is too much fluid forced to the power steering. Could this valve control or restrict hydraulic fluid to the power steering, or are there any user serviceable parts in there.
The only other thing I could think of is the type of fluid may be incorrect. It has been topped of with hydraulic fluid, & seems like it may require sae 80 gear oil.
Might also be overfilled. Could that restrict ther return flow line from the power steering?
