Did you get the belt properly tensioned?

Not per Snapper specs. Like I said, after installing new idler it works fine now.

Took some pics today of my idler pulley install. It is spring tensioned, and keeps me from having to adjust with the "backbone" method. Pulley, all thread, 3/8 nuts and washers, and spring.

One thing to check...Do you have the right length belt installed?

My '06 Series 23 (281223BVE) Snapper RER burned up its belt choking on wet leaves last Fall. I looked in the wrong parts manual and bought a #7043844 (73.75") belt.

Couldn't get it to adjust to Snapper spec. It works ok, I think ? but later I discovered that belt was for a 33" deck. My 28" deck uses belt # 7022252 (72.75")

Going to upgrade to the proper size ASAP and keep the longer one as spare
