I have a 1958 Ford 861 Diesel and fuel is leaking into crankcase. It appears the umbrella shaped seals need to be replaced. I've read on the forum the shape of the seals makes it's really hard to reinstall the shaft. It was mentioned there is a tool but instead of using the tool you can use a zip tie. I've googled for information on the tool but haven't found anything.
Can someone explain why it's difficult to install the shaft with new seals. Also, info about the tool and how to use zip tie.

I found this photo that was posted several years ago (btw...thank you for posting it).

Thanks. Tom

Its not difficult if the shaft is out of the engine..
As u can see.. the cup needs to go IN.. that means its possible & likely, that it will roll.. {turn inside out} unless u use your fingers to press around it & use plenty of lube.. both ON the seals AND in the tube.
Now its A LOT harder on diff. applications where the dr. shaft stays in the engine..
