Snow Tractor Questions

We live in mid west Ohio about 1 mile from Indiana. The first three winters we lived here I got by with the loader and no chains. Last winter every time it snowed the wind would kick up to 25 MPH+. 6" of snow with 25 MPH winds equals 4' drifts. The tractor spent more time going sideways than going forward and reverse. My land is flat as a pancake. That's why it drifts so badly here. This winter chains and a ballast box are at the top of my list. I'm considering the Aquiline Talons. These are studded chains and the most aggressive chain that I can find available to purchase online.

Do you know where a dealer is located around here for Aquiline Talons chains?
I like the looks of them

I got my chains on line from Tirechains.com, they are located in Pa. and were a great company to work with. They carry many different styles of chains, you should be able to find what you need there. The price was nice also.

I just got a set of chains from tirechain.com yesterday. I got 2-link ladders (3/8") for the rears ($300), and 2-link ladder v-bars for the front ($100). Total was ~$475 after shipping for all 4. I priced Talons for the rear, but they cost at least double - too much $$ for me. The best I could do locally for rears was $475 for 2-link ladder rears (and they use 5/16" chain) and $145 for 2-link ladders (no v-bar) for the front.

In all honesty- you should strongly think about a rotary ( snow blower) for your tractor or truck--

Why push it- when you can throw it!!

If you are talking about steep roads-- again why push it??? When you are pushing snow in a big snow event you can easily run out of snow storage along the road- -

-- Why do you think most DOT's have plows that will - throw-- the snow away from the road--.

I live in snow country as well- Wind River Mountains Wyoming-- I own a plow for my ATV and walk behind thrower- I always will -throw it- before I push it-

I wish I had a rotary for my JD :) My MTD thrower is great-- but again- why walk- when you can ride :)

I couldn't find them locally. The only place I could find them online was Buy Tire Chains & Snow Chains from the Traction Specialists©. As Jay4200 says they are about twice as expensive as standard chains. They are the same as Tellefsdal chains Tellefsdal as. The "Super" model on the Tellefsdal website is the same as the Aquiline Talon. I got mine Friday. The chains were $450.00 and the freight was $150.00.

That's pretty much in line with what I paid for mine. As I recall, last year they were $550 Cdn delivered to my local Kubota dealer, who markets them as "Norse" forestry chains. They're made by Tellesfdal, and rebranded to other markets as far as I can see.

I don't know how they compare to anything else on the market, I do know the price is quite a bit higher. I will say that I'm 100% satisfied with them on snow and ice. I don't run chains other than in winter conditions, so I can't comment on their performance in mud.
