I have had my 4500 for about 8 years and have been using it for TLB work. It has 2600 hours on it. Heavy on the backhoe. Today it gave up the ghost. When I was pushing forward to load up the bucket, I heard a big pop. I thought that the backhoe subframe popped a bolt. When I crawled underneath, it was much worse - the transmission cracked up the side (both sides) all the way to the top.
Do not think that it will be easy to find a transmission, and even then, a lot of work. Even parts tractors seem expensive. I am thinking that I would be money ahead to get another tractor.
Thinking about even getting another 4500. For what I put this tractor thru, its been good to me. The only thing that scares me is the lack of a legitimate subframe for the backhoe. I'm thinking that if this tractor had one, the case would not have split.
What are some comparable tractors & models that I should consider?
