"SUPER LOAD" came through my area.New Pics

Super Load came through my general area tonight.I had to go see it.It's a giant stator for a Duke Energy power plant in Boiling Springs,NC.Here is the LINK to news footage. All the updates are listed below the video.I have helped move some big stuff, but this is by far the biggest thing I have ever seen on wheels.

Here is my crappy cell phone pic.The digi cam was dead. The movers made a trail through the woods around it.It was too dark to get a good pic.Tomorrow I leave for Slemp,a coal mining village in Kentucky, that's where the other half of me is from.Yep,I am married to a coal miners daughter. The stator will be moving Sunday. They will close I-26 around exit 5 to Campobello.

I've been reading about that- something like 1.7 million lbs and 750 feet long!?

The number of tires they have under that thing is impressive! Making sure they are all properly inflated could be an all day job!

Wow, that is impressive. It makes you wonder why they don't build giant stuff on site.

Thats got to be the heaviest load ive seen moved. ive never seen the jeep axles cause a truck in the first pic get the truck tail heavy. The jeep ususally just floats on the truck. like a smaller trailer. Ans the chains from the drawbar on the trucks runs up high on the next tractor to hold the nose down is something else. I like the 50 000 pound planetary axles on the other pic, thats a mean truck. I used to have to move a truck crane with axles like that. It only weighd in around 100 000 pounds in total.
I bet shifting everyone in synch is fun with that setup. We recently had a 3 loads come in with a few loads of a press going to a Toyota plant in Alabama. Dad and I were comming home from work when he called me to tell me that an escort came through with a clearance pole on it. About 3 weeks later my wife and I saw the trucks some through the light at the bypass and both were pulling a funny set of trailers. Well one was a tralled and the other was some doubled quad dollies. From the sounds of them they were high output rigs. A few days later I was comming home and the cops were pulling folks off the road an our little road was busy. I saw the trucks on the main road and went to see them. The whole thing had 80 or so wheels. One truck pullig and one pushing. Dad lives on the main hwy and I called him and hes saw them up close to. Then as second load came through and the 3rd load came in and had to go down the little Golden road in Belmont MS I was just getting off work and took a few pics and went around it to see how this low set thing was gonna cross the railroad tracks there. It jacked up with and inch to spare.
i talked to one of the drivers at a rest area and he said that the the port nearest the plant wanted a million dollars a day to tied up the dock there for a few weeks while the one here was way less per day. So much so they trucked it a couple hundred miles. This rig had 4 dollies up front and went frome shoulder to shoulder. I think it was only 300 000 pounds.

There was an article in our paper about the move. It took weeks because of all the permitting, power lines and things that had to be moved, scheduled when people would least likely be on the roads. The article even said that they had problems with people trying to block the route and chain themselves to the rig.

Here's a link to the maker of really big trailers and their capabilities. Take a look in their "photos" section. Unbelievable! Fascinating!

Taylor...Now I know what a "jeep" is. I didn't know until I browsed the Murray website.
