I started the 29 to plow some snow (she sits out) and about five minutes later she sputtered and died. After some futile cranking attempts, I checked the fuel site bowl and it was empty! The gauge showed a half tank. I disconnected the hose from the inlet side of the bowl assembly and no fuel. Suspecting ice, I poked around with a coat hanger both in the tank and up the hose, a small trickle started to come out. Obviously it should come out in a big hurry, but it was good enough to get her started, bleed the system, and finish my job. Anybody else had this problem?

Your fuel has gelled - get some Power Service in the Red Bottle (I think it's called "911") and follow the directions. After it starts, use White-Bottled Power Service in your fuel during the winter months.

Search this forum on "Diesel fuel gel" using search option "and". You'll get a night's worth of reading.

Might also be crud clogging the finger sized strainer atop the fuel valve...

Interesting... you're thinking the 29 has an in-tank filter similar to my 2N's sediment bowl assembly?

My ford 5000 and NH 7610s both do. When i was having stalling problems with my 7610s, and broke down in the middle of no-where i called my dealers shop manager to ask him what to do. His first reply was to pull the fuel valve, and then use some of the fuel rushing out the bottom o fthe tank to clean the screen.. slap it back in and hope you have enough fuel to get home... It worked too... at least temporarily. My strainer was plugged up bad.. A new valve was only 25$ from CNH.. looks like the same valve as on my 5000.. I get the feeling it was a 'standard' part..e tc..

Thanks Soundguy, I wish I could get access to the bottom of the tank. I pulled her into the garage yesterday intending to pull the tank and clean it but you practically have to remove everything but the tires to get it out! Fortunately, fuel is now flowing out of the tank at a good rate. At least for now! If it happens again, I quess I'll have to schedule a day off!

On my 7610s you need to remove the tool box and an attachment flange for the box to get access to remove the fuel tap. on my 5000, you have to remove a small metal cowling to get easy access to the bottom of the tank.
