Tell me about pre-emergent herbicides

Having to clear, grade and plant 10 acres of turf, I would suggest you always have "roots in the ground" to control erosion, mud, etc. If you burn everything down with glyphosate you'll end up with a mud pit, unless you put down gravel.

Pre-emergent (as stated) will prevent root growth in new plants. Post emergent will kill existing weeds from the top down. So there are different application procedures for each.

I use 2-4D or MSMA+ for Post emergent weed kill. I use Princep for pre-emergent. Works well for me. My neighbor does 0 weed control (pre or post) and you can see the line where I sprayed on the lot line. No weeds on my side, 90% weeds on his side.

If you plant a pasture grass in that area, fertilize it 1-2 times a year, the grass will choke out many weeds in the future.
