I am wanting to get a roto-tiller for my 1433. I have been looking at 5ft. models. Will my tractor handle a 6ft. tiller? The weight doesn't appear to be a problem, but I'm not sure about PTO/engine power when engaged with the ground. I will be tilling old and new ground.

I think it would depend on soil type. I have a 1250, same hp as your 1433. I use a 5" tiller. If in soft soil going as deep as I can go, it does lug the tractor down. I think in my soil type, silty clay loam, that a 6' would be to much.

I grow a lot of rocks in my soil! Too bad there is not a market for small to medium sized odd shaped rocks! Where I plant is good soil, but between rocks and when it is broken up well, 6ft may be too much so I will just keep looking for a 5ft. tiller. I hate to spend the extra money for something that I can't use to its full potential.

I have a 1433
a 5 footer is perfect
Trust me, a 5' tiller is bleeping heavy.
and in real wet clay it will bog down
but 5' covers your tires and zips right thru stuff.

Thanks Cowboy,
What brand do you have?

some goofball made in mexico thing.
i.e. I have no idea

It does have a name on it, but
a. it's 22 degrees out
b. it's dark
c. it's got 4 inches of snow on it.
;)

Seriously, dunno. They all work the same
Get one with a slip clutch rather than a shear pin.
but it isn't light. Except for the aerator, it's by far the heaviest thing I put back there. I bet it weighs 800/900 pounds. It's noticable when it's back there.

I have a Taylor Pittsburgh 962 series tiller that is a beast. made in TN (423-745-3110) It is gear driven and quite heavy. The 5 ft is rated for 25-40 HP. their 6 ft is rated for 35-50.
whatever you get, if you have a barn with cement floor, make a heavy duty dolly for it since it makes tucking it in a corner and/or attaching so much easier.

Made in TN! I like it! Thanks for the info, I give them a call. I don't have FEL or weights on the front, would weights be a good idea?

Yes
I have a FEL on mine and it's still heavy

Hey Mark, A 5ft. tiller would be a perfect fit for your tractor, I have the same tractor and use a borrowed 52" from a neighbor that has given up gardening (he won't sell it to me) and the tractor doesn't even know its back there, If I didn't have access to this one I would be looking hard at a 60"kk from TSC for about $12??. where I'm located... Happy tilling , its almost time :D
Mark

edit: I think you won't have a problem without the weights
