Resetting manhole cover to the septic tank

My guess would be for the better traction in reverse with a full load in the bucket.

^^^ this is one reason. they also don't tear up the yard as much. i also believe though i have no proof that the wear longer

I did it ten years ago for more traction backing up out of the silt with a full bucket:
