Trailering JD 2320

Check your state laws. Once you put a trailer behind your PU with rolling stock on it the rules change and you are scrutinized by the truck law enforcement specialists. Up here I see PUs with tractors pulled over frequently on the state hwys. Some states to not allow straps for equipment loads, chains only. Most states require brakes on all wheels of implement trailers with breakaway controls to lock up. Those safety chains are also a big hit item on enforcement. When I was looking at used trailers I saw a lot of ones with brand new tires, but they were not rated for the axel load capacity. There is a big difference between trailer tires and auto tires, and the price can double or triple; hence sellers scam the unwary with cheap new tires. Car rims are not allowed on trailers carrying equipment either. Fines for truck/trailer violations are way up there related to your car fines on moving violations. Warning tickets are not usually issued for moving violations or equipment/safety violations. That's why you see trailers parked along the road while the truck is off finding a way to get the trailer moved before it is towed. The truck enforcement cops carry portable scales, lights, mirrors, and a tool box. You are in a new league once you put your tractor on the trailer. Canadians and Alaskans/others traveling through Canada are subject to some very stringent rules. Check their rules on RVs towing cars for instance.
