I do not know if anyone will be in the Atlantic City, NJ area on 8/18/04 but if you are, they are having a FREE air show on the boardwalk. If you are interested see this web site for show times and acts that will be at the show.

I plan on taking the day off and driving 3 hours to attend, you can not beat the price and when done you can visit the casinos too. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Now that will not be free.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The show starts at 10AM and ends at 4 PM, sounds like a sore neck for sure. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I remember back in 1993, when the blue angels came to the Reading Airport Air Show. I was a flight instructor at the time. After they performed they landed at Harrisburg Airport (which is about 60 NM away. Me and a couple of friends flew down in seperate Cessna 172's to pick them up. The one guy asked if he could try flying it. On the way back on the landing he kept want to give it full throttle. He thought flying at 60 knots on final was too slow and we were going to drop out of the air. It was kind of funny.

My brother in law was a Marine and flew a F-18. One day in the late 1980's we got a call on a Saturday morning that he would be in Harrisburg in a few hours. We jumped into the car and drove the 2 hours to the airport to see him come in. He was stationed on the west coast and was back east on a training mission and got permission to fly from Philly to Harrisburg to visit his family and flew into Harrisburg with his F-18 for a few hours. We all went to the airport to visit with him. We knew about what time he would land, but not sure when. We were all in the terminal and heard this loud engine, we knew Chris was in the area, nothing like the roar of a F-18, no missing that sound. He landed and spent a few hours with us. At dusk he took off, full afterburner, and straight up, it was some site, something I still think about some almost 20 years ago. Now he just flies 747 for United, he misses his F-18 I am sure.

Anyone in the Tri state area going to make it on the 18th? We can have a meeting on the beach to the roar of military aircraft??

Blue Angles in town putting on quite a show this weekend...

It's something to be on a hill looking out at eye level with a fighter jet flying by and get a wave from the pilot...

Reported cost is roughly 20k per hour per plane including fuel which is roughly 1600 gallons per plane per performance...

36 million is the annual DOD budget for the squadron...

I saw the Thunderbirds in Spain (Sevilla) either 67 or 68 and again at Selfridge Air Force base, Detroit area in 69.

I worked next to Moffet Field in Mountain View, CA and all I had to do was walk over to the fence at Moffet Field and watch the Blue Angels. Saw they twice.

Both put on a heck of a show.

I remember watching the Thunderbirds when I was a kid. Sitting on the roof of our base housing carport at Travis. They were still flying T38s then. I've seen the F16 versions a few times, too. Living in Vegas, they would sometimes practice over head. They even did a show in Sioux Falls when I lived there. We are only a few miles from Texas Motor Speedway and they perform there every few years.

Enjoy the show!
