Brush hog mowers will typically only have a tailwheel - finish mowers have wheels at all 4 corners to keep it more even. But the brush hog will cut tall and/or thick grass better than a finish mower. If there's no brush or tall grass, and the ground is relatively smooth, I'd go with a finish mower.

I drove over to Massachusetts two weeks ago and saw a B106 Woods rotary cutter really whipped, the dealer just took in trade. My curiosity got the best of me, so I called the dealer and asked what kind of price was on it...

It seemed like forever, but after about 3 or 4 minutes explaining to me, how top of the line it was and the original retail was well over $4500, he was sure he could come up with an agreeable price for both of us...

Another minute or two of shuffling through papers, and still hearing him talk how great this beat to death cutter was, finally he came up with a price and happily said..."Ok, I'll break even...you can have it for $2200..."

I politely declined his fabulous once in a lifetime offer and hung up... I didn't realize those Woods cutters appreciated like that...

On the other hand, I didn't feel like being on the phone for another 1/2 hour if I told him... 3 years ago, I almost bought a brand new B106 for $1950... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

"I recommend go 7' as it will allow you to cut closer to stuff. Otherwise your tires & tractor get close, but the mower stays inches away."

Good point! I do have a lot of tree line I need to get close to, so that might come in pretty handy.

Once I get some add'l info on the 7' offered to me, I'll post it for all of you to review and give me your thoughts.

By the way....the 560 is diesel!

Well, as my luck would have it.....a day late as usual....the guy just sold the day before yesterday. I did find out it was a Howse 7' about 5 years old.

Oh well, on to a better deal I suppose!

I looked at some new ones, I believe the brand was King Kutter, any thoughts on these? They have both regular duty and heavy duty.

Also, what is the benefit or difference of a Twin spindle rotary cutter? Looks like some you need a lot of HP for according to the specs, but I was just curious.

I've looked at the King Kutter's and don't see any reason to be afraid of them. The pricing seems reasonable, compared to other brands. Think I saw them at Farm&Fleet. Good thing would be you'd at least have some warranty, and being new, you should have no problems getting parts. Plus, you'd have no 'hidden' gear damage or leaking tranny box. Lemme know what you find. In a couple years when my bargain used one wears out I'll be looking again....

The King Kutter is definitely reasonable in price....just looking at the construction of them, they are quite a nice compared to a Bush Hog, Woods, etc. Of course that may be the difference in price, too! Can't say I've ever had anyone say their brush hog cut any better because it was pretty!

I'm learning a lot everyday about these things! I think I'll be looking at a pull type vs. 3 pt.

A few years ago, I bought a 5' KK rotary and used it behind an 8-N, then the 8-N was traded for a Ford 3000. The KK worked out really well. In the spring I'll be picking up another KK 5' for my JD 955. Seem out here in the plains, prices are a bit more reasonable. The closest KK dealer, 60 miles away quoted me $500 for the 5' model. Everything else I've seen is higher. Worth the 120 mile drive to me.

If Rotary cutters got any better than Hardee I couldn't stand it, love emm and I have torn up the rest. I would consider looking at the woods cutter as well however. Go ahead and spend the $ and get the heavy duty unit, you'll be glad you did upon your 1st oops.

Here in the Northeast, I've never seen one "up close and personal"... only in pictures...

Not very good, I tried to get the Hardee Williams page to come up and it kept kicking me to some casino site and I don't have a Jpeg..sorry. It is a 5' heavy duty, the grade above the tiger series. I would love to go 6' but in this weight of cutter I don't think the "Bota" would handle it. I used a Bush hog brand before this and tore it up in one day, made the dealer refund me and bought this Hardee.
