Ok - been too busy to write up a quick summery of my Compact Wicket Grapple Installation and use - I purchased this back in December of 2013
Friggin awesome. This grapple has become my new favorite attachment. I have found so many uses for it although I mainly use it for firewood / log processing I have done a lot of land clearing with it and just been so impressed on how well it works. I almost never leave the operators seat.
After a lot of research I determined I wanted to find a lightweight but strong root grapple for my Kubota B2920 - a nice size tractor but it is on the smaller side of compacts and did not want to compromise lifting capacity from the weight of the grapple itself. In fact I think I was the first one to get the Kubota QA installed so I may have been the first Guiney pig for that design. Bottom line it works like a dream and find I can switch from Bucket to Grapple in under 5 min. It is very easy.
The Grapple design is first rate - even my go to tractor guy was blown away on how well thought the design was and commented someone (Ted) knew what he was doing to shed weight without cutting into the strength of the unit.
I just did not have the luxury of doing the install myself and after my guy got into it I was very happy I farmed this out - he found issues as to where to install the valve - settling on the loaded support - just a first rate job done by Bob of Woodbury Tractor (Woodbury CT) - some of you all know Bob - fantastic shop and just a terrific guy to work with. He takes such pride in his work (a rarity today). When I asked him about the installation valve kit he says he rather make them up to fit the tractor instead of using a universal kit. He was not overly happy however about how to mount the switch so he removed my handle and used a handle from a skid steer (the color even matched!) - shrink wrapped the wire down the lever shaft and used a webbing material to cover that - again it looks better than factory in my onion.
First thing I did was lift logs to cut up for fire wood, clear out a heavy vegetated area and moved mountains of brush.
For the money there is no substitute - I am very happy with it and highly recommend anyone looking for a grapple that offers a lot of value to look at the EA Wicket line.
