I have a CC 2166 with the 16hp Kohler. It came without a deck and I finally found a 48" three-blade deck in mint condition. The deck came with an unmounted belt-driven Model 292 fan assist blower to help move clippings up to the bagger.

The 16hp pulls the 3-blade deck OK in low grass without the blower installed, but I'm concerned adding the blower, especially if grass is high, might be a strain on the little Kohler.

It's unknown what horsepower machine from which the deck came, but most with that 48" are at least 22hp.

Thoughts?

The funny thing is they use to use 16 hp on 48 inch decks years ago. We had a cc106 that had a 42 and a 10 hp K series engine. Now 42 inch is 16-25 hp. Different engines and different hp rating system.

When Dixon came out the base model had an 8 hp engine on a 42" deck. Premium model had an 11 hp.

I have had a 2185 for many years. 18 hp and 48" deck.
Lots of power. I run it as fast as it will go as I have a large rural area.
Optional for my model was the fan assist blower.
If you stick to dry grass I would not expect you to have problems.
Mowing speed and width of cut are two factors you can control to match engine power to load required.
