OEM spec for the radiator cap on (most?) Yanmars is 13 psi. I hope this is convincing:

YM240 Parts manual: Cap # 124450-44590.

Numerous sellers online: 124450-44590 = Deere CH18207 Example:
Fits John Deere Tractors 650, 750, 850, 900, 950, 1050, 1250, 1450, 1650
Replaces OEM No. CH18207, CH10427
Fits Yanmar Tractors F14, F15, F16, F20, FX20, GT14, YM146, YM186, YM187, YM195, YM220, YM240, YM276, YM330, YM336, YM1180, YM1401, YM1500, YM1600, YM1601, YM1610, YM1700, YM1702, YM1720, YM1810, YM1820, YM2000, YM2010, YM2020, YM2310, YM2500, YM2610, YM2620, YM2820, YM3000, YM3110
Replaces OEM No. 121120-44590, 124450-44590

(The first genuine Deere CH18207 I found was $29 then two others around $20!).

Tisco CH18207:
OE Type Radiator Cap 13 psi. For radiator overflow reservoir systems, fits 3/4" deep neck. Tractors: 330, 430, 650, 655, 750, 755, 850, 855, 950, 955, 1050, 1450, 3320, 4500, 4700, 4720, 5105, 5205, 5320, 5520.

As part of my minor reconditioning of the YM240 when I bought it in 2003, I did research similar to this and put on a 14psi lever-vent cap spec'd for '72 Datsun. Twelve years later no issues at all with the cooling system.

I hope this puts the issue to rest. :)

I suspect Hoyes RC-28 is the Stant 7psi 10228.

Normde, 10 years ago you stated here yours originally had a 13# cap. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/yanmar/55789-radiator-cap-correct-my-ym240.html

Yep, strange, I don't know how I would have known that unless I just read in in the manual. As I said the only legible writing, (to me) is a Arabic 7. Just recently saw fit to install that cap I bought 10 years ago.
Apparently someone must have said it was a 13# but Aaron told me it was a 7, which I chose to believe, after seeing the 7 on the old cap. Matters not, one way or the other. If you are boiling over with a 7# you got another problem anyway, but it will cure some minor leakage..

I did a very unscientific test on our current batch of caps (made by Kent) and the best I could tell they are 13lb. I used a digital scale and compared to several original Yanmar caps that we had left over. I do know that we used 7lb caps for many years also and had zero problems. Both work just fine.

I guess it all comes down to how much over the boiling point you really want to run your tractor?

With a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and a 7psi cap- your coolant will not boil until about 240 degrees. With a 14lb cap & 50/50 mix you increase the boiling point to about 260. The temperature warning lights should all come on at under 220 so both are well over that number.
